Cable Television is one of the few things, like movie theatres, that I hope will never go out of style. Most of the people today have some type account on Netflix, Apple TV, Shomi, Crave TV, or YouTube. These websites are a spectacular invention, and can save you some time; No advertisement.
Other than no advertisements, there are the undeniable advantages about these alternate ways of watching television; getting to watch the shows you want, when you want. However, there is no way of replacing the excitement you feel when the premier of new season on your favorite show. Sometimes, I still find myself making popcorn, and waiting in anticipation and eagerness for my favorite shows to come on. This might just be my point of view, but being able to watch an episode the first time it airs (with no spoilers) not knowing what’s going to happen is one of the best parts of the television watching experience.
The newer ways to watch television are not uploaded the same time it premiers. By the time you get around to watching the show online, you might have already run in to mega spoilers. Don’t get me wrong, I love these alternative ways to watch television, but the waiting for the show can feel like an eternity. The point of a television show is to be entertained and surprised, even if the surprise is really small. For someone to wait so that they can watch the show, and they see some “spoiler alerts” it takes away half of the point of the show. Spoilers and the timing of the show being uploaded is what will hopefully keep cable television up and running. Today cable television is still used quite a bit, I don’t think cable television will ever truly go out of style, because of the excitement of anticipation that comes with it.
